Description
Pair of Egyptian Revival Italian specimen marble obelisks
Italian, 20th Century
Height 262cm, width 54cm, depth 54cm
The obelisks in this pair are superb demonstrations of native Italian marbles, with specimens including verde antico, brocatello, porphyry, and Siena marble. Each obelisk features a plinth-form base and a pyramid-pointed top, the surfaces profusely inlaid with specimen stones within a parcel gilt ebonised wood frame. The pair is a fine example of the twentieth-century taste for the Egyptian Revival style. -
