The obelisks in this pair are superb demonstrations of native Italian marbles, with specimens including verde antico, brocatello, porphyry, and Siena marble. Each obelisk features a plinth-form base and a pyramid-pointed top, the surfaces profusely inlaid with specimen stones within a parcel gilt ebonised wood frame. The pair is a fine example of the twentieth-century taste for the Egyptian Revival style.
