Description
This early 20th century rug shows the incredible skill and artistic sensitivity of North Indian craftsmen. Its vast field takes us to a lush garden of a mighty Raja where at every step we may experience breathtaking views, mesmerizing colors and gorgeous gifts of nature. The central part of the antique carpet is filled with a graceful allover design of cypresses and flowering trees within a dense millefleur. An attentive onlooker is likely to spot proud birds of paradise sitting on some of the branches to the delight of the honorable gardens of the guests.
This richness is complemented with equally compelling series of borders containing flowery thicket and rosettes. To make the composition balanced and palatial, the great Indian artisans decided on a warm color palette with beige and cream details against the caramel background, finished with touches of azure. Slightly differing coloration and various shades of hues within the indian area rug are known as ‘Abrash’ and are caused by a hand-spinning of wool, a use of natural dyes but also it may be an intentional creative effect or a personal expression of a weaver.
It is a marker of quality which confirms that the extra large area rug was entirely hand-made and has no artificial components. The soft, sheen pile of this oversized wonder was indeed thoroughly hand-knotted of the finest wool in old and refined techniques. This North Indian rug is going to imbue any contemporary abode with its royal charm and fresh, nature-related beauty. -
