Description
A large American turned wood bowl with impressive burl grains and original surface circa early to mid-19th century, likely from Northeastern states. The hand-turned bowl was likely from maple burl, judged from the color and the grains. It has a recessed rim for easy grip. On the exterior of the bowl, there are two decorative lines circumventing the mid-body and four grooves toward the base. The surface displays a deep patina that appears original from an extensive use. There are natural occurrences such as an indentation in the wood as well as old stable cracks on the rim from a long history of use. One area on the exterior wall shows a darkened burnt-like patina. The interior has darkened area and a very patinated surface, commensurate with its age and history.
A wonderful piece of Americana and an object of beauty in itself. -
