Fine Antique Indian Handmade Wool Rug

Authentic Indian rugs are something more than mere decorations. Dazzling beauty of their designs makes them nothing short of masterpieces. Due to their luxurious patterns and superb quality  antique Indian rugs gained a considerable interest in recent years. As they are being re-discovered by the general public we start to learn more about their fascinating history. The production of antique Indian rugs dates back to the Mughal period of the late 1520's. Beginning with the conquest of Northern India by Babur, weaving workshops developed around the imperial cities of Agra, Fathpur and Lahore. After Indian rugs gained the attention of British, they became more popular in the West, especially in the United Kingdom.
This superb antique Indian rug was woven in the early 20th century, circa 1920. The classic elegance of its pattern and subtle color palette immediately draw the eye. The design of this North Indian rug contains a main field decorated with a lush floral motif consisting of blooming tress around a central medallion with pendants of broad scrolling strap work and fleurons. The whole is framed by a delicate vinery border with floral motifs, characteristic for many types of Oriental rugs. Color palette accompanying this composition contains pastel shades of peach and sand beige, with a little bit of cool blues. While this antique Indian rug is rather large, its size, 12'5" × 22'0" (378 × 671 cm), makes it perfect for more spacious interiors, such as living rooms or personal libraries.
