Oversized Antique Persian Khorassan Handmade Wool Rug

$ 100,000
  • Description
    This circa-1920 antique Persian khorassan rug collection features an intricate all-over design of botanical motifs and arabesques in blue and dark brown against a field of gold. Staples of Oriental large colorful area rugs, such as the boteh, can be seen throughout. A paisley shape, the boteh typically represents a leaf or a pinecone.

    The name "Khorassan," given to the eastern province of Persia during the Sassanid Empire, means "where the sun arrives from." Antique oriental rugs for sale and carpets are made with a soft wool woven into thin, tight piles, making them durable despite their soft lustrous wool.

    Further distinguishing themselves, Khorassan carpets make use of an unusual artistic effect produced by uneven trimming of the pile, which makes the figures of the design stand out from the background. Whatever the design or color, antique Persian rugs runner and carpets maintain a high standard of drawing and weaving technique.
