Antique Persian Bakhtiari Blue, Red and Yellow Runner Fragment

Although initially Bakhtiari carpets were woven solely by the nomads, the most recognizable and qualitative examples of these textiles are manufactured by settled communities of Bakhtiari in the west central Iran, southwest of Isfahan, Chahar Mahaal and Bakhtiari. This antique Persian runner was made by a Bakhtiari tribe inhabiting the southwest part of Iran. The main field of the rug carries an allover pattern of paisley motifs (also known as boteh or buta). Though probably of Persian origin, this design is very common in India, Azerbaijan, Turkey and other countries of the Near East. The main field is embraced by a series of decorative borders. Everything is rendered in a rich color palette featuring red, blue, brown and yellow. The antique runner was made by hand of high-quality wool in accordance with traditional techniques. Due to careful execution, it is durable and unique. Provided proper maintenance, it will serve its owners for generations without any signs of wear.
