Description
A large and stunning stoneware ceramic vessel in the form of an urn or a deep bowl by American potters Mary and Edwin Scheier (1908-2007;1910-2008) dated to 1984. The darkly glazed vessel features their iconic design of interlinked figures, arranged in two rows of six and circumventing the perimeter. The highly textured volcanic glaze is of a brilliant hue of crushed gold in contrast with a turquoise blue, highlighting the contours of the sculptural feature on the surface. The sculptural face could be seen from inside as the concaved medallions adding an interesting texture to the interior. The base is incised Scheier 84.
