French 19th Century Walnut Empire Commode
-
Description
A dignified Empire commode from 19th century France, circa 1850. A unique slab of gray and white marble tops the beautiful patinated walnut base. A hidden drawer without hardware, sits flush at the top of the commode. Flanking the bank of drawers are columns with decorative brass capitals and bases, typical of the Empire style. The ornate hardware throughout is quite unusual and unique. The three main drawers are each fixed with a pair of intricate floral drop ring pulls. Two of the drawers feature the original wreath-form escutcheons; the middle drawer escutcheon has been replaced. All drawers have been cleaned and slide open smoothly. No keys are included with this commode, however the drawer pulls made this commode very easy to use. Bullet shaped feet elevate the whole. Make sure to view the detailed images for a closer look at the condition and great patina.
