French 19th Century Petite Empire Commode
-
Description
Four total drawers compose this petite, yet dignified Empirical mahogany commode. This case piece is topped in black / charcoal-colored fossil marble that, along with the body, has patinated wonderfully over the decades. Iconic of the Empire style, two pilaster columns flank the bank of drawers, each having decorative brass capitals and bases. The top two drawers have working locks, while the lower two cannot be locked. Cast brass pulls make for easy access to the lower three drawers, with the topmost drawer accessed using the single key as a pull. Brass can also be found in the cast laurel wreath escutcheons that ornament the drawers’ keyholes. There is a single key included with this piece. Make sure to view the detailed images to get a closer look.
