Description
Large gilt, patinated bronze and marble clock set by Raingo Frères
French, Late 19th Century
Clock: height 73cm, width 29cm, depth 28cm
Candelabra: height 66cm, width 30cm, depth 26cm
By the French firm Raingo Frères (French, founded in 1823), this spectacular three-piece set comprises a central clock and a pair of flanking candelabra, mounted upon small white marble bases, with extensive, spectacular Neoclassical sculptural works. The clock with a low dial is signed 'Raingo Fres / A Paris,' and is set within an ormolu-mounted white marble case, inlaid with figurative friezes on all four side.
It is surmounted by a signed patinated bronze figural group of dancers after Clodion that is signed 'Clodion / 1762' and 'Raingo F.res.' The pair of six light candelabra are similarly decorated, held aloft by very fine bronze figurative groups. An exceptional display set, adorned with superb sculpture, few clock sets can rival this for grandeur and artistry.
