Beatrix Potter was an English author, illustrator, mycologist, and conservationist best known for her children's books featuring animals such as Peter Rabbit. Potter's stories were adapted into a series of popular children's films in the 1990s and 2000s. Born in London on 28 July 1866, she spent much of her childhood in the Lake District, where she developed a love for the natural world. Potter published her first book, The Tale of Peter Rabbit, in 1902. She went on to write and illustrate more than 20 books, many of which remain popular today. Potter also wrote and illustrated scientific papers on fungi, which were published in the Linnean Society's journal. In addition to writing and illustrating books, Potter was also a keen conservationist and farmer. She died on 22 December 1943.
