Description
An antique French circular marquetry table with floral inlay
French, Early 20th Century
Height 76cm, diameter 108cm
This fine antique table features an extensive, bright marquetry decorative design that adorns each face and surface, and serves to give it a wonderful radiant quality.
Made in France in the early twentieth century, it consists of a tripod structure, with a trio of legs joined by a triangular base and lower secondary surface, and arcing, scroll shaped mounts atop each support. These in turn are decorated with scrolled acanthus inlays, and each surface, facet, and arc of the table is elegantly inlaid with a uniform, consistent pattern of flowers, birds, and large open garniture vases on top.
The harmonious combination of the tones of the marquetry and overall structure mean this piece stands alone and resplendent without the use of bronzes or gilded mounts, making it a beautiful and welcome addition to any homely interior. -
