THE ABRAHAM BISHOP BREAKFRONT BOOKCASE
Boston or Salem Circa 1775
Attributed to Benjamin Frothingham,Jr.

Depth: 24 1/2 inches
Provenance: Abraham Bishop (1763-1844), Boston, Massachusetts and New Haven, Connecticut married Nancy Dexter (1776-1851) on March 11, 1792 in Newburyport, Massachusetts. Nancy Dexter was the daughter of Timothy Dexter and Benjamin Frothingham, Sr.’s widow, Elizabeth Lord Frothingham Dexter. Written in chalk on the backboard of both the upper and lower case,”For Abraham Bishop, New Haven“
Reference: The base to the bookcase is based on Plate XC of Thomas Chippendale’s The Gentleman & Cabinet Maker's Director, Third Edition, 1754.
