Description
Meissen Double-Cornucopia Floral Porcelain Vase with Cherubs
German, Early 20th Century
Height 20cm, width 19cm, depth 12cm
This intriguing piece is a small floral porcelain vase by Meissen, which was made in the early twentieth century. Of an unusual form, it features a double cornucopia shape, with a pair of cornucopia horns, each supporting a small, forward-facing cherub, applied with leaves and mounted on a small stem-shaped set of four feet.
The horns are joined at the top to create a single internal volume and the front of each is decorated with an elegant, meticulously painted Rococo style floral burst. A curious piece, and a rare design from Meissen, it features the distinctive blue crossed swords mark in underglaze to the base.
