Description
Early 18th Century French Régence period carved giltwood table with mirror
French, c.1720
Height 68cm, width 44cm, depth 33cm
The wonderfully executed carved giltwood surface of this Régence period table is decorated with symmetrical designs, in the form of acanthus leaves, shells and rinceau. It features a lockable, hinged top opening, revealing a green velvet-lined compartment, and a mirror. Symmetrical designs adorn the sides of the piece, mirroring the front of the table which includes a single drawer. Four cabriole legs support the body of the table.
The present piece is particularly rare and important as a period example of the French Régence of the early 18th century. A beautiful piece, and testament to the skill and artistry of French Rococo craftsmanship and design, it is an exceptional and highly desirable antique interior addition. -
