Jane Appleby
Canadian, 1964
Jane Appleby is an accomplished artist deeply inspired by the beauty of nature. Her artistic journey is a blend of self-discovery and formal education, reflecting her love for the natural world. With a keen eye for detail, Jane immerses herself in the landscapes of local mountains, forests, and the serene shorelines of Galiano Island, seeking to capture what she describes as the "visual music" of these environments.
Working primarily in oils, acrylics, and watercolors, Jane creates her art either on location or from her studio in Burnaby. While initially self-taught, she honed her skills further by earning a certificate in Fine Arts Technique from Emily Carr University, alongside completing a Biology Degree at Simon Fraser University.
Jane is not only dedicated to her craft but also passionate about sharing her knowledge. She has conducted workshops at prestigious venues such as Vancouver, Place Des Arts in Coquitlam, the Okanagan School of Arts, The Whyte Museum in Banff, and even aboard Cunard Cruise lines. Additionally, she reaches a global audience through her YouTube Channel: Jane Appleby Art. Her two books, including her latest work, "The Purposeful Brush," further showcase her commitment to artistic exploration and education.
Recognized for her artistic excellence, Jane has received numerous accolades, including an award of excellence from the Federation of Canadian Artists Abstract show in 2012 and 2nd Place in the Plein Air Competition 2020 at the McMichael Art Museum. Her artwork is highly sought after, with collectors from around the world acquiring her pieces. Jane's paintings have been exhibited in various galleries in Canada, Spain, Monaco, and Italy. She is proudly represented by several galleries in British Columbia and Alberta, with her works available at Mountain Galleries in Whistler, Jasper, and Banff.
