Description
Available today, this Mid-Century Modern sun deck chaise in hardwood & cane designed by Walter Gerdau in 1942 is gorgeous!
This beautiful sun deck chaise has a darkened wood structure with original Indiana cane on the seat/back and is very comfortable. The reclining mechanism allows three different positions and works perfectly. The two front legs have wheels (original) meant to move the chaise easily from one place to another. The manufacture seal is in the back.
Everything in this piece is authentic, from the Indiana cane to the wood and the metal structure. The wood has been refinished and the engine oiled up. Besides the marks of age, the chaise is in awesome condition.
This Brazilian Modern beauty can go indoors or outdoors and will effortlessly flex into any Mid-Century Modern, Contemporary environment. This piece would also look wonderful in a boho chic home as well. The last images are contemporary publications showcasing the timeless piece
This piece was originally built for transatlantic cruises back in the day from Brazil to Europe. The wood has been refinished and is in excellent condition also.
About Walter Gerdau: In 1908 the small ‘Fábrica de Móveis Navegantes’, in Porto Alegre, was bought by German businessman Johannes Gerdau and his son Walter. Walter, the manager of the business, started the fabrication of bentwood furniture, in the Viennese style developed by the Austrian Michel Thonet in the second half of the 19th century. Although the furniture of the Gerdau family can be found in many places in Brazil, the Gerdau designs have remained a bit of an unknown legacy.
