Description
A gorgeous French Empire mahogany alcove daybed and bed crown hand-crafted in France in the 19th Century. A rare lit de repos made of mahogany most likely from Cuba or the Antilles and fitted with brass and ormolu figurines drawn from myth and history. The mahogany of the frame showcases the flame effect present across the best grain of the wood. The ornamentation on this piece representative of the Empire period includes neoclassical lions on the crown, heralding winged trumpet players on the bed frame, symmetrical swans, a favorite motif of Empress Josephine at her home Malmaison on the headboard, central symmetrical lyre players on the facade panel and Egyptian palmettes at the feet. The bed frame is flanked by stately fluted columns with ornamental brass capitals and bases featuring repeating neoclassical patterns. The crown offers the ability to create a private intimate space with your choice of drapery in a recessed space or nook for a niche bedroom. This piece is very versatile and could also be used in a living space as seating. Be sure to view all the images to see the incredible details. Crown 3 ¾” H x 47 ¼” W x 32” D. Interior mattress measurements 51.75” x 75”. From the slats to the top of the bedrail where it meets the headboard and footboard is 13.75”
