Description
Contemporary floral recycled textile panel by Elodie Blanchard
American, 2022
Height 70cm, width 64.5cm, depth 4cm
Made using a number of recycled materials, the artist celebrates the discarded materials and turns them into desirable and attention-grabbing works of art.
Hand-made by Elodie Blanchard, a French artist and designer, the work comes from her ‘Bouquet’ collection. It is made from snack packaging, repurposed scraps of textile, mylar balloons as well as plastic bags, turning them into a one-of-a-kind piece. A floral composition is depicted with three large flowers and numerous smaller ones. The flowers are coloured in shades of blue, purple, orange, and yellow. Foliage is made from intricately stitched and variously coloured green textiles. Mylar balloons have been used to add a touch of shimmer to the piece alongside coloured threads.
Several parts of the panel are three-dimensional such as the stigma, adding depth and texture to the piece.
‘Bouquet 20’ is framed in an elegant, contemporary frame.
Elodie Blanchard creates her pieces in a studio in New York. She has previously crafted works for numerous galleries, institutions as well as public spaces, having her work displayed in various cities around the USA. The artist’s goal is to change commonplace and often unwanted materials into rare and collectable artworks. The piece in Mayfair Gallery’s collection is an outstanding example of her skill and artistry.
