Andrew Moore
American, 1957
Andrew Moore (born 1957 in Old Greenwich, CT) is a prominent American photographer celebrated for his sweeping, large-format color studies of places undergoing change. His series span diverse locales—from the grandeur of Detroit’s decaying architecture and the atmospheric interiors of Havana and Russia to expansive scenes across the American Plains, Cuba, Hudson Valley, and Times Square.
Working primarily in archival pigment print, Moore meticulously captures the dialogue between human-built environments and the passage of time. His long-term projects, often spanning years or decades, reveal both the dignity of aging spaces and the profound impact of transformation.
Moore’s work has been exhibited globally and is held in major collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Whitney Museum, National Gallery of Art, Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Smithsonian American Art Museum, Yale University Art Gallery, and the Library of Congress. He received a Guggenheim Fellowship (2014) and grants from the NEH, NY State Council on the Arts, and J.M. Kaplan Fund. His publications include Detroit Disassembled, Cuba, Russia, Beyond Utopia, Dirt Meridian, and Blue Alabama.
In addition to photography, Moore directed and produced the documentary How to Draw a Bunny (2002), which won a Special Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. He teaches graduate photography at the School of Visual Arts, New York, and has exhibited at Trimper Gallery in Greenwich.
