Description
A bronze bowl shape vessel with fitted lid from Korean dated to 15-16th century (early Joseon Dynasty). In an elegant minimalistic form with thin wall and supported by a high foot ring, this flat top bowl was likely reserved for ritual use. The surface displays a wonderful oxidated green patina that only comes with age. The foot ring was fastened by four pins, which was apparently the original construction.
Reference: For two very similar bowls and dating analysis in the collection of Victoria and Albert Musuem in London, see page 110 with illustration on page 113. "Korean Art and Design" by Beth Mckillop. (Accession: M.579 dash 1936 and M.104 dash 1937). -
