Description
Important 18th century secrétaire or writing cabinet elaborately made in the baroque period in West Germany around 1770. Different kinds of fine nutwood/ walnut were used to set up a very unique design. Fantastic looking fields of rarely used poplarwood surrounded by delicate, inlayed ebonized fruitwood threads on the front create a really dramatic appearance. The amazing grain of this poplarwood can also be found in the inlayed frames on both sides which are following the shape of this exceptional baroque cabinet/ secretaire. The lower section, an outstanding crafted commode, contains three large drawers and a folding writing surface with additional eight small drawers and a middle compartment in the back. The attached upper part offers a large, lockable 2-parts door hiding another ten drawers, a middle compartment with lockable door as well as a larger storage compartment under the beautifully curved roof. Also a very nice feature are the two additional small pull-out compartments for the candlesticks. Artfully brass fittings and a traditional hand-polished shellac finish finalize the sensational look of this over 250 year old, rare masterpiece of a late 18th century German baroque tabernacle.
