Lovely oval Biedermeier nutwood side table / sewing table coming from the renowed Biedermeier period in Hungary around 1835. With an age of over 190 years this charming "danube monarchy" side table is still an eye-catcher and provides a lockable center drawer, divided into three compartments. The oval top thrones on two beautifully shaped ebonized columns which have been mounted on a very artfully designed base which is additionally adorned by this upholstered "hump" in the center. Contrary to what most people think, this wasn´t for the sewing needles, this was made to put your feet on to avoid cold feet - what a clever idea, isn´t it? The beautiful nut wood veneered surface shows a traditional hand polished shellac finish. This old restored antique Biedermeier table comes in great condition showing best the incredible craftsmanship of the carpenters of the 19th century. A lovely brass key lock completes the gorgeous look of this fantastic 19th century Biedermeier side table/ sewing table.
