Carl E. Lawless
American, 1894 - 1934
Known for his impressionist landscapes and floral still lifes, Carl E. Lawless began his studies at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts, before moving to Philadelphia to continue his training at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. The latter institution awarded him the Cresson Traveling Scholarship, which allowed him to study in Europe after the end of World War I. From 1925 until his death in 1964 Lawless lived in Mystic, Connecticut, where he helped found the Mystic Art Association.
