Description
A presentation miniature sterling silver working architectural model of a dam gate. Awarded to Sir Malcolm Hailey, British peer & administrator in British India, 1921 to 1936. It is a large model, made in London c. 1925 by William Fredrick Wright silversmiths. Presented in 1926. This model is of a dam gate & can be opened & closed by a hand cranked pulley system on the top of the model. The model represents one of many gates of a bridge over the Sutlej river, that flows through Pakistan & India. Built by the British, to monitor the water flow of the river to irrigate farm land & prevent flooding. The box is fully hallmarked for London, England 1925 & it has two dedication plaques installed on each side of the model. The base is black lacquered wood 11" x 10" the model is 9" tall & weighs almost 12 pounds. The roof opens to reveal cedar lined compartments for cigarettes. This desk model is in excellent condition, no dents or dings, maybe needs a little polishing.
