Description
A French Royal Manufacture of Aubusson woven tapestry from the 19th century, with floral motifs and red, light green and brown tones. Created during the 19th century in the Aubusson manufacture located in central France, this wall tapestry features a central scrolling cartouche surrounding a delicate bouquet of flowers, accented by white roses and light pink flowers accompanies by their green leaves. This central motif stands out beautifully on a red ground. The ensemble is completed by a light green border with scrolling acanthus leaves and campanulas, imitating the effects of a carved frame in a painting.
The Aubusson Manufacture was born in the 15th century, and became Royal Manufacture in the 16th. It produced large tapestries created to embellish walls and warm up rooms and gave birth to some of the most famous pieces in the world, such as The Lady and the Unicorn. In the 21st century Aubusson was inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
Our 19th century French Aubusson tapestry, which showcases some very minor imperfections, will enliven any room beautifully, hung in a living room or stairway!. -
