With pride we present to you an absolute unique opportunity, not just an antique piece of furniture, much more, a truly amazing piece of history with incredible provenance! The personal Travel Writing Desk from Empress Elisabeth I out of the imperial court in Bad Ischl, Austria.
To the story of this extraordinary writing desk with its remarkable previous owners: his majesty Franz Joseph I and empress Elisabeth I., worldwide also known as "Sissi". Coming from the renown Kaiservilla, the preferred summer residence of the royal couple, this foldable travel desk was a personal present from the empress to her loyal chambermaid for all her longstanding great efforts. Many many years later she inherited it to her niece, where we were finally found this unbelievable piece of history.
The body was made of beech wood trimmed to nut wood look. The tabletop shows a magnificent marquetry work with three different kinds of finest mahogany creating fantastic 3D effects (see pic #5). A thoughtful foldable mechanism minimizes the size of the table to a third and made it the perfect travel partner to her empress Sissi. A simple but great design, reflecting the perfection of craftsmanship of the carpenters in this historic period. This antique writing desk comes in perfect restored condition and shows a fine hand polished shellac finish. A real rare and special masterpiece you will definitely not be able to catch every day!
