Description
Early 20th century Persian Kashan floral wool rug
Persian, Early 20th Century
Height 213cm, width 133cm
This fine woolen rug was crafted in Kashan, Iran, a renowned center for carpet weaving with a centuries old tradition.
The central panel is adorned with several vases of bouquets of various sizes. Around them are repeated symmetrical motifs relating to nature and depicting flowers, birds and foliage. Above and below the floral compositions are smaller geometric patterns rendered in muted shades.
Surrounding the large central panel is a selection of borders. The thinner borders are rendered in deeper shades of blue with cream patterns, whereas the larger border is decorated with a polychrome design on a maroon background.
This superb Kashan rug can be used as a floor or wall covering bringing a touch of refinement to the appropriate interior space. -
