According to Richard C. Nylander, former curator of Historic New England, the mirrors installed by David Sears in his stylish townhouse designed by Alexander Parris, documentation shows, were made by Boston’s foremost mirror and frame maker, John Doggett. This mirror is closely related to those still hanging in that house on Beacon Street, now the Somerset Club. It also appears to be identical to an example in the collection of the Worcester Art Museum, ordered by Stephan Salisbury and his wife Elizabeth from Doggett for a new home in Worcester. Doggett’s day books show that the large, top quality mirror plates that he used were imported from France.
