  • Description
Girafe floor lamp designed and produced by Jean Rispal in the 1950s, made of wood and a two parts cellulose acetate lampshade. It is also equipped of a small integrated table, metal feet and a noticeable feature is the electric cable threaded in structure of the piece.

The lighting manufacturer RISPAL was a French lighting brand based in Paris and active from the mid 1920’s to 1982. RISPAL productions were very varied and used materials such as, wood, glass, brass, crystal and wrought iron. During the 1950’s, the house launched a line of lighting models called “Formes Nouvelles”, which took inspiration from Scandinavian lines as well as from nature and artists such as: Alexander Calder, and Hans Arp. The materials used for this line were wood and opalines as well as Rhodoïd, for the creation of the lamp shades, which are to this day very rare to find. Perhaps the most iconic model of the house, is the Praying Mantis, a model that takes its inspiration from the elegant lines of the insect, making the piece a lighting sculpture.
