Description
In the time of its greatness falling on the middle of the 17th century, the historic weaving center of Savonnerie issued magnificent antique aubusson rugs dedicated to the kings and nobility of Baroque Europe. The palatial rug for sale before your eyes, although presently made, matches the outstanding quality and sumptuous yet absolutely irresistible beauty of creations from the most prestigious European modern rug manufactory. Its imposing body is covered in a heavily stylized, curvilinear design with a central medallion, four foliage corner spandrels, panaches, flower bouquets, architectural references and “rocailles”, enclosed within a single border bearing a meandering fret pattern, gently ornamented with smaller blooms. The composition is complemented by a rich color palette of camel, caramel, brown and beige motifs against the light blue background with invigorating touches of green and rose. Thanks to the high-and-low pile supported by a skillful grading of colors, the Savonnerie-inspired design acquires a tree dimensional character. It brings to mind an oil painting or an exuberantly decorative ceiling of Château de Versailles. Next to the rich and sophisticated face, the traditional-inspired large round area rug can boast of impeccable execution. Thoroughly hand-woven of the finest wool in accordance with the centuries-old techniques, the piece will most definitely serve its owners for generations without any signs of wear. The abundance of curves, counter-curves, undulations and elements modeled on nature combined with exquisite texture will constitute a royal touch to any classy interior arrangement, bringing in the memory of magical and glamorous Savonnerie craft. Doris Leslie Blau carries an exceptional collection of original modern rugs in many styles and materials. Contemporary hand-made rugs are a bridge throughout history, they are the fruit of the constant evolution of the weaving craft that has accompanied men since the dawn of civilization.
