$ 8,000
  • Description
    Juliette Kida Renault (as JKR) Esquire Magazine Illustration Original Art (Hearst, c. 1950s). "He said his first word to-day". A fixture of Esquire magazine, this piece is by prolific artist Juliette Kida Renault, also known as JKR. Classic 1950s middle-class imagery, here, with a "man in the Gray flannel suit" type coming home to find his wife complaining about a pet parrot. The parrot's beak is gagged. A caption appears on an accompanying scrap of matte board: "He said his first word today." Drybrush acrylics and opaque watercolor on board-mounted canvas. Lovely textures. Image area, 10.5" x 15". Excellent condition.
