Description
FINE PAIR OF 20TH CENTURY ENGLISH GILTWOOD MIRRORS IN THE LATE ROCOCO STYLE OF JOHN LINNELL
#3022
An extremely fine pair of 20th Century Giltwood mirrors in the late Rococo style of John Linnell.
English circa 1950-80
The mirrors of fine proportions and retaining their original gilding and mirror plates. The frames are delicately carved with a mixture of rococo detailing and architectural elements such as the columns used at each side of the pieces. The scrolling foliage is naturalistically rendered and the ratio of carving to plate is perfect, something which even the 18th entury masters often found difficult to achieve.
The particular feeling of these mirrors is similar to those produced by the Berkeley Square firm of William and John Linnell, acknowledged masters of this type of work. Rarely do later pieces manage to achieve the same lightness of touch and delicacy of 18th century pieces but that is certainly the case here. Coincidentally, we also have an 18th century piece which we believe to be by the Linnell firm which can be seen here

Of a particularly desirable size, pairs of mirrors like this are a decorating staple and will find a place in any home. These lovely mirrors with their mellow gilding and fine plates will enhance any interior scheme.
