Description
LARGE PAIR OF MID CENTURY CHATY VALLAURIS SUNBURST MIRRORS WITH CONVEX PLATES
#3023
A fine and decorative pair of large Mid 20th Century Chaty Vallauris sunburst mirrors with the original convex plates
French Circa 1950-60’s
One of the iconic mid century designs and highly sought-after today, these mirrors in the sunburst style were made by the French designer and manufacturer Chaty Vallauris in the 1950s-60s.
Many variations on the basic design were produced, with varying numbers of rays and different silhouettes being more or less circular in outline. Our pieces are one of the most successful of these designs with a perfect balance struck between the size of the plates and the length of the rays. The mirror frames are produced in gilt metal. The rays project from a rope twist bezel, one of the signatures of Vallauris design as opposed to one of their many imitators, and having central convex plates which are original. Pairs of mirrors of this sort are especially desirable and are not frequently encountered.
Chaty Vallauris was a French firm based in Provence which designed its pieces in-house and is particularly associated today with metal framed mirrors, especially sunburst designs. Pieces such as the present pair were the height of fashion when they were produced and are just as fashionable today due to current interior trends and collecting habits. Ideal either as accent pieces in a more traditional interior or to complete the full vintage look, these lovely mirrors are sure to be a talking point.
