Description
Qing dynasty antique Chinese red coral specimen
Chinese, Early 20th Century
Height 49cm, width 29cm, depth 5cm
This red coral specimen, with flowing lines and organic form, is a beautiful example of how the work of nature can be, and has been, celebrated as art. The coral has been mounted on a wooden base towards the end of the Qing dynasty in the early 20th Century, and is part of an ancient Chinese tradition of collecting coral, which was highly coveted for the preciousness of the material and its fine, red colour. -
