Description
Designer: Carlo Zauli
Italy - Circa 1960s
Dimensions: 12" H x 10" DIA
Condition: Excellent vintage condition.
Immerse yourself in the exquisite artistry of Carlo Zauli with this beautiful large ceramic vase, crafted in Italy circa 1960s. Zauli (1926-2002), a renowned sculptor and ceramist, has created a piece that epitomizes the essence of mid-century Italian ceramics. This bulbous vase with its narrow, stylized neck and opening stands as a testament to Zauli's innovative approach to form and texture.
Measuring 12” H x 10” in diameter, the vase features a striking dual-tone glaze. The top portion is adorned with a pale gray mottled textured glaze, intricately decorated with loose sgraffito abstract designs that add depth and interest. A thin brown ring bisects the vase, creating a delineation to the bottom portion, which boasts a rich dark indigo blue glaze that deepens to almost black at the base. The subtle teal sgraffito on the bottom portion adds an understated elegance to the overall design.
Signed "Zauli" on the bottom, this vase is not only a functional piece but also a collector's item, representing the zenith of Zauli's early period. After graduating from the Faenza Institute of Art, Zauli dedicated himself to contemporary ceramic production, continuously innovating techniques, shapes, and decorative choices from 1950-1967. This period marked his evolution towards a more sculptural interpretation of ceramics, intertwining informal atmospheres with a harmonious yet disruptive naturalness.
Carlo Zauli's works are celebrated for their unique artistic language and have garnered international acclaim. His pieces are housed in over forty museums worldwide, making this vase a significant addition to any art collection.
Celebrate the legacy of one of Italy's most outstanding artists of the 20th century with this exceptional Carlo Zauli ceramic vase, a perfect blend of form, texture, and color that brings a touch of mid-century modern elegance to any space. -
