New England or New York State, ca. 1820-1830.
Maple and pine, paint decorated.
Over-all in excellent condition, some wear and loss to painted surface.
Provenance: The Collection of Dr. Donald F. Moylan.
This rare and unusual candlestand has an incised and painted checkerboard top with a swivel game-piece drawer attached to the underside, above a turned shaft supported by carved cabriole-shaped legs. The top has penwork inscriptions around the outer edges of the gameboard. -
