Joshua Jensen-Nagle
Canadian
Joshua Jensen-Nagle is a contemporary photographer renowned for his evocative large-scale images that blend elements of reality and dreamlike abstraction. Born in New Jersey and now based in Toronto, he studied photography at Ryerson University before establishing his career in Canada. Jensen-Nagle's work is characterized by its painterly quality, achieved through techniques such as using expired Polaroid film and layering paint directly onto photographs before re-photographing them. This approach imbues his images with a unique texture and depth, inviting viewers to experience a sense of nostalgia and emotional resonance.
His series, including Endless Summer and Winter, feature aerial perspectives of beaches and ski slopes, often captured from helicopters to provide sweeping views of human figures immersed in vast landscapes. These compositions evoke a sense of solitude and introspection, transforming everyday scenes into poetic visual narratives.
Jensen-Nagle's work has been exhibited in over fifty shows worldwide, including prominent art fairs such as Art Toronto, Photo London, and Art Miami. His photographs are held in numerous private and corporate collections, including those of Microsoft, Hilton Hotels, and Cirque du Soleil. Represented by Off-Piste Fine Arts in Whistler, his pieces continue to captivate audiences with their timeless beauty and emotional depth.
