Biography: Sang-Min Lee (1966-) is currently a professor of Chungang University in Department of Sculpture, Seoul, Korea. He studied in Department of Arts Plastiques, Strasbourg Marc Bloch National University, France (MFA) and in Department of Object, Ecole Supérieure des Arts Déoratifs de Strasbourg, France (BFA. MFA). He has held 23 solo exhibitions since 1996 including in the National Gyeonggi Museum of Contemporary Art, South Korea.
A winner of Contemporain Art Japan, Bourguil, France, The International Snow Sculpture Competition in Quebec, Canada, and Eurocreation Prize at the Pepiniere des Artistes, France, Sang-Min Lee experimented to blur the boundaries between two- and three-dimensional art by using glass as a medium. He defines the “inner side of the universe” as the object of his artistic exploration. Lee’s reflection on the inner side of the universe is represented through an encounter with the properties of water as the source of everything. He hopes the image of his glass sculpture overlap with the quality of water and intends the action of light as a physical factor enables us to perceive the work more deeply. -
