Swedish Gothic Revival Painted Wood Corner Cabinet with Glass Doors, circa 1830

A Swedish Gothic Revival painted wood and glass doors corner cabinet from the mid-19th century. This exquisite Swedish corner cabinet features a molded cornice overhanging two Gothic inspired doors with glass panels. A giltwood rosette, carved onto the two doors, visually separates the two broken arches, so highly reminiscent of Gothic cathedrals. The lovely shape of these motifs is delicately accented by the golden hue of the giltwood molding, alternating with the light blue painted accent of the trim. These doors open to reveal adjustable inner shelves. The lower section of the cabinet is made of two doors of solid wood, carved with a simple light grey/blue outline. The 19th century experienced a renewed interest towards traditional styles such as the Gothic, which had lost its attraction during the 17th and 18th centuries. This piece is an excellent example of such. Corner cabinets are problem solvers and placed in a living or dining room, this Swedish 1830s piece will brighten up any space beautifully with its charming elegance.
