Description
Sori Yanagi Butterfly Stool in Molded Palisander Tendo Mokko
The Butterfly Stool by Sori Yanagi, (1915 - 2011) an iconic figure in Japanese industrial design. Originally created in 1954 using the moulded plywood technique that had been newly created by the Eameses.
Composed of two identical curved pieces of plywood, with brass fittings, often seen as butterfly wings, of which it gets its name.
"True beauty is not made. It is born naturally". Yanagi did many paper models of this stool, as opposed to only working on the drawing board.
This stool has the Tendo Mokko, Japan label on the underneath.

Pavilion is the collective vision of Deborah Colman and Neil Kraus, both graduates of the master of fine arts program at the Art Institute of Chicago. From a longstanding interest in art and design, frequent buying trips to France and Italy have influenced the direction of the gallery to offer items that are not easily sourced in Chicago and United States. Postwar design has been the focus for 18 yrs and we also look forward to new design that crosses boundaries and dialogues as well to the past
