Description
With an elegantly cosy appearance, these chairs are stylish examples of the soft, curved aesthetic side of mid-century modernism in Europe. Adopting the trend of abandoning ornamentation to benefit the form, the designer of this pair managed to maintain the beauty and warmth of this style of enveloping chair design.
This pair exudes quality and personality from all sides. Their classic shape is formed by the generous seats and embracing, curved backs. The large backrests - that constitute the armrests as well - follow the curve of the voluptuous seats and slope downward gently. This creates an inviting and open look, which is a signature characteristic of mid-century modernism. Thanks to the sinuous, large surface, the texture of the light bouclé fabric dominates the overall look of these armchairs. The short, stained wood legs prevent the chairs from looking heavy by slightly lifting them off the ground, while their warm brown colour nicely compliments the soft, light colour of the bodies. From the muted colour scheme to the material choices, these chairs exude the essential mid-century modern aesthetic. They are therefore perfect choices to add that cosy charm into any space. Without any tufting or festooning, the focus here is on the round, flowing lines. Thanks to the soft bouclé fabric, the chairs have a natural, textured look, making them ideal to blend a stroke of modernity to any space, with a nod to organic, simple artistry.
European furniture from the mid-20th century revolutionised the history of what we consider modern design today. Cabinetmaker armchairs may seem similar at first sight, however, each model’s individuality becomes evident upon closer inspection - and armchairs, in particular, are unrivalled reference points when identifying mid-century modern design.
