Margaret Mitchell

Margaret Munnerlyn Mitchell was an American author and journalist who was born on November 8, 1900, in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. She is best known for her novel "Gone with the Wind," which was published in 1936 and won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1937. The book, which is set during the American Civil War and Reconstruction era, follows the story of Scarlett O'Hara, a Southern belle, and her struggles during and after the war. Mitchell was a journalist before turning to fiction writing, and she worked for several newspapers in Atlanta. She was inspired to write "Gone with the Wind" by stories her grandparents had told her about their experiences during the Civil War. Mitchell died on August 16, 1949, in Atlanta, Georgia, after being struck by a car while crossing the street.
