Description
A Song / Yuan dynasty partially glazed brown and black stoneware bowl.
Song Dynasty ceramics (960-1279 CE) are characterised by their refined and elegant forms, their subtle, monochrome glazes and their simple yet impactful decorative motifs.
The Yuan dynasty (1279-1368 CE) is often regarded as being no more than transitional between Song and Ming ceramics. This is not entirely true. The use of painted decoration, begun during the Song period, became much more widespread under the Yuan emperors - in a manner that affected the course of porcelain manufacture throughout the world. -
