Description
Very fine Pair of Chinese Chippendale period ladderback open armchairs, having shaped and piercedsplats with outcurvate stiles shaped arms and supports over a drop seat with show wood rails above 'bamboo" turned legs and stretchers. English c. 1765. A side chair of this model is illustrated color plate 105 in Gillows of Lancaster & London 1730-1840 by Susan E. Stuart. Plate 104 shows a colored sketch by Gillows for this model "fiddle back" chair.
