Description
Lalique, Modern Cactus Center or Dining Table, Clear Crystal, 72" Glass, France, 1984
The Cactus table, designed by Marc Lalique in 1951, is a stunning example of art glass and interior design, epitomizing creativity and elegance. Crafted from exquisite crystal, the table features intricate volutes that capture and reflect light in mesmerizing ways, creating a sense of movement and depth. Its design, timeless and luxurious, seamlessly complements various interior styles, from modern to classical.
This particular example, manufactured in 1984, is sold with its original order memo and receipt from Lalique in Paris, France. The table’s original purchase price was 132,732 Francs, which translates to approximately $148,700 when adjusted for today's exchange rate. Such a remarkable piece, blending art and functionality, is a true testament to the craftsmanship and prestige of Lalique.
Crafting the Cactus table requires artisans who have earned the Meilleur Ouvrier de France title, a prestigious honor for master craftsmen. Six glass masters collaborate, combining modern techniques and traditional skills. Each leg is handcrafted over eight to ten weeks, starting with 18 kg of crystal. This meticulous process ensures each piece is a unique and luxurious work of art.
