Description
Cristal Art, founded in 1944 in Turin, Italy, gained fame for its innovative use of glass and mirror designs, combining functionality with artistry. Known for bold shapes and refined craftsmanship, the company’s pieces capture the spirit of mid-century Italian design. This particular mirror, crafted around the 1960s, is a striking example of Cristal Art’s talent for creating objects that balance utility with dramatic aesthetics.
Design
This two-layered mirror is a masterwork of design and detail. The rear layer consists of six amber-golden segments, five smaller ones and a central larger piece, cut into elegant, curved shapes. Over this, a clear, freeform oval mirror is secured with visible bolts, blending industrial functionality with organic elegance. At the base, a hammered, oxidized metal element commands attention. Its textured surface evokes the raw beauty of an oyster shell, grounding the piece in nature-inspired motifs. Within this metal form lies a concealed light fixture, complete with a milk glass diffuser that creates a soft, inviting glow when switched on. A discrete pressure switch ensures the light integrates seamlessly into the mirror's design.
With its theatrical and bold composition, this mirror is more than a functional object—it’s a statement. The interplay of amber hues, clear glass, and textured metal creates a dynamic visual rhythm that draws the eye. A perfect piece for those who appreciate mid-century design, it captures Cristal Art’s ability to transform everyday objects into works of art.
Condition
The mirror has some charming oxidations and this is adding to its appearance. Besides this, the mirror remains in a very good condition. -
