Antique Viennese Enamel & Silver Gilt Classical Nef Centerpiece

Description
Austrian Classical silver gilt and enamel nef, ca 1890. A two-mast galleon with crow’s nest and wire rigging with cast crew manning the deck. Hull mounted to cast silver gilt figural support in form of bare-bosomed, scaly biped mermaid, holding a trident in one hand and kneeling on domed base with leaf-and-dart and scalloped rim. Enameled scenes from Classical mythology; ocean sea life depicted on hull interior.
Marks include stamp for Ludwig Politzer (1841-1907), Viennese silversmith and court jeweler who exhibited at the world’s fairs in Paris in 1878 and 1900. Very good condition with nice patina.
