Description
This deeply felt and beautifully made Mid-Century Modernist Hand-Carved Seated Female Nude Sculpture in Walnut signed Aldo Calo (B. 1910) originates from Italy, C. 1968. A brilliant carved piece, this sculpture features a female nude figure with elongated limbs and crudely hewn hair seated on a grooved seat which emerges from the integral rectilinear base, all carved from the same piece of walnut. Brilliant angular forms and cutouts of negative space are created by the intersection of her bent limbs, one hand covering her mouth as though rapt with emotion, the other cast loosely between her thighs. Her musculature has an uneasy tension, beautifully capturing the tightness and emotionality of her figure. Brilliantly handled and without unnecessary descriptive detail, this sculpture is an incredible example of the versatility and emotional rigor of Aldo Caldo's work and the values of Mid-Century Modernism. Signed on the top surface of the carved base.
This sculpture with its versatile scale will style beautifully in a wide array of spaces and settings, from Mid-Century Modernist to Contemporary and Minimal Interiors. In Excellent Vintage Condition. -
