Description
Antique amethyst and pearl inlaid walking stick
Continental, Late 19th Century
Height 87cm, diameter 2.5cm
This superb European walking stick, crafted in the late 19th century, reflects the elegance and grandeur of the Belle Époque era, a time when artistic optimism and refined luxury flourished in the decorative arts.
Atop the slender handle sits a dazzling faceted amethyst, encircled by a delicate band of petite pearls. The gemstone catches the light beautifully, enhancing its vibrant hue. Amethyst has long been associated with happiness, prosperity, and love, while pearls symbolise purity imbuing this antique with deeper significance. Below the handle, a gilded metal casing elegantly wraps around the wooden shaft. The upper section is adorned with intricate laurel and ribbon garlands in a swirling arrangement, followed by gracefully draped floral garlands tied with ribbons. These decorative elements transition seamlessly into a finely pierced openwork design framing a discreet eyelet, designed for attaching a wrist cord.
The walking stick is completed with a small metal ferrule at its base.
With its sophisticated design and meticulous craftsmanship, this walking stick is a distinguished addition to any collection. -
